My Amazing Seed Box

I really do have a problem.

Oh, I'm similarly afflicted. Perhaps your problem is you need a larger garden? Or maybe more time to plant seeds? :P

Larger garden - YES! Of course!
But why do I have 9 packets of chives?

Wow, Sylvana!

hmmm, but look how organized you are!!

Jim, I am afraid that it has come to bigger box time. I actually have my original seed box (a freezer container) and an upgrade (a clementine crate) already in this box.

Sarah, I think that every time I see this.

Wendy, I had to get organized. Last year I realized that I was buying seed I already had!

Your box looks better organized than mine! I use an old Veseys box with the lid ripped off. Seed packs are in plastic bags and some seeds "escaped" into the bags. Whoops.

Kara, I do have this pretty well organized: roots/bulbs/tomatoes, herbs, squash/melon, greens/tomatoes, legumes/miscellaneous, and in the back - perennials, annuals (which are a little mixed up right now because I was looking for something). And in the way back I stuff plant tags of perennials that I plant.

Wow! That's quite a collection there! I'd pick chamomile if you don't mind :D

Wow, that box represents a lot of work for you.

I'd like to stop by and just take a couple seeds from each of those packets:)

Maybe this winter you can list everything you have, and then stash that list in your wallet. That way, when you're shopping, you can confirm that you don't need more chives.

Do you have gardening neighbors? You could give some seeds away. You'd get uncluttered, and they'd get a smile.

Chandramouli S, there is a garden up the street that has chamomile that perennialized, so i'm hoping mine will too.

Roses and Lilacs, would you? I try to give seeds away to people that I know are gardening, but they all want to buy their own - even though they are getting pretty much the same thing!

Lisa and Robb, that is just what I did last fall - I inventoried all my seeds so that I'd know what NOT to buy. It worked great! Until this spring I accidentally bought a package of radishes that I had already bought this spring. Guess I I have to keep that list up :)

That's funny that you mention about giving seeds away. I try! But most people like to go buy their own seeds. My immediate neighbor and I do share seed packets, though. We even split what we grow. She grows our cabbages, I grow our peas.

Hi, I also had to upgrade my small seed box to a large tin (after 3 years of growing veg, I treated myself to a nice one) and promised myself that all seed packets must fit in it, so far so good.

I will need to wait a few years before I build up as much as your fine collection!

ooooh fun! A fellow seed addict! I think I'm gonna enlarge that photo and take a better look at what you've got!

Tracey, I bought about $50 worth of seed at around $1 a packet - that's about 50 packets of seed I bought just this spring! I did completely used up 7 of those packets already :)

JGH, what I found interesting was that if I were confronted with a list of seeds, I wouldn't be as likely to check it out and definitely would not spend as much time looking at it as I would seeing a picture of a box of the actual packets. Weird.

You do have lots, but they look so well organized. I have such a hard time throwing seeds out and yet I continue to buy more of what I already have. There's something fun about buying seeds.

Catherine@AGardenerinProgress,they are like trading cards. Plus they are great potential in a paper package.

Oh, my ... LOL.

Amy, my husband LOLs when we are in a store and I say, "I'll be over by the seeds".

Holy cow! My collection of seeds fits in a three inch teracotta pot. And, that includes the packaging!

Turling, ah, I remember those days -- so long ago...
