Ok. So I promised more posts on the gardens that I visited while overseas last fall. Here are some lovely garden shots from the Edinburgh area in Scotland.I noticed that gardening was really big in Great Britain and Ireland. Many homes had conservatories or sunrooms. Even this house with an alley for a backyard has a wonderful conservatory.
The landscaping at the Edinburgh Castle was perfect. The people in this photo are a blogger's family that we visited while in Edinburgh.Lyvvie's family was lots of fun. We spent the whole day with them playing at the castle, enjoying an awesome lunch at Frankensteins, reading epitaphs at a high society graveyard, romping around on Folly Hill, and enjoying caffeinated beverage at the most scenic Starbucks I have ever been to.
The Starbucks Had a great view of the Edinburgh Castle and the Prince Street Garden.
The Prince Street Gardens is just below the Edinburgh Castle, and one of the most interesting sites in the garden is the floral clock. It is an actual working clock made out of various perennials. It is said to be the oldest in the world. It even has a working cuckoo. I didn't stick around long enough to witness it though.I don't have the patience to create something this detailed in my own garden.
The view of the castle from Ross' Fountain is amazing.
There is a carousel and a play ground there as well.It was so depressing seeing so many roses everywhere. I have no luck growing them. Oh well, I'll live vicariously -- or maybe I'll move!

Amazing how the flower gardens pop with color when contrasted against those drab ancient buildings, isn't it? When I visited England years ago I was struck by the same nice contrasts.

Wow what wonderful gardens you were able to see. How long were you gone? I hope to do someday get over the big pond and visit the gardens. Thanks for sharing.

KC MO GG, I was lucky enough to get 3 weeks off for my trip; although a few years back I was able to spend 2-1/2 months over there. I, of course, recommend a visit.
