That gazebo that you see in the picture below has been needing concrete pads under the legs since we put it up for graduation in the spring. Well, we finally got it done today since it was such a nice afternoon. For concrete, you should have a hammer drill. It goes in like butter! Luckily I bought one a few years ago for another project I was working on. It was $25 to rent it and about $100 to buy it. I wasn't sure how long I'd need it so it just seemed like a reasonable thing to just go ahead and buy the drill. I was so glad that I did. It took us about an hour to get the whole thing done.
We have been putting that off for so long and it ended up being so easy that I feel silly now...as I usually do after getting something done that I have been avoiding for too long. Especially when it ends up being not such a big deal after all.
Oh, well. Now I'm off to avoid the rest of my garden chores!!

I'm a HUGE procrastinator! And I always feel silly afterwards too. My number one excuse is that I don't have enough time to do xyz. Then I do it and it doesn't take long at all.
Yeah, and I find tons of other things to do so that I can say that I was doing this or that and I didn't have the time, usually things that do not NEED to be done, so I know that I really did have time to do it. Such is the way of a procrastinator.
... and now we all have another great procrastinating tool. It's called BLOGGING.
Ah, yes! Blogging! The ultimate procrastinators tool! I used it a lot my last year in college to avoid writing papers and studying for tests.
Doesn't it feel good to get the stuff done, tho?
I've been slowly putting the yard to bed, weekend by weekend. No big push, no huge itinerary - just going out when I need to get out of the house and puttering around doing 'stuff'...
This has worked well. I'm usually still fussing with getting stuff put away in mid-November, and here it is late October and I find I'm almost done.
I procrastinate on housecleaning. Oh, yes.
I hate cleaning the house. I clean it well once a week. I clean for 30 minutes, take a 20 minute break, and then repeat. It takes me all afternoon to finish, but it doesn't seem so horrible.
Jenn, I rarely do fall chores. I leave everything til spring when it really can't wait anymore. I really hate to see the plants go, even if they are dead.
Kasmira, I clean the house sporadically- usually when I can't find something or I smell something funny...
I procrastinate on cleaning the house too. I would love to have a house keeper!
Many of the plants I grow benefit being left up for the winter. Russian sage and lavender being two that come to mind - cutting the stalks down in fall causes the winter water to get in and rot the crowns.
So your 'procrastination' may be leading to a happier garden!
Sandy, I have often thought about hiring a house keeper, if only a couple times a year to help me really clean, but then I would have to clean before they got here, so I just give up on that idea.
Jenn, I like that thought. It makes me feel like I am doing something useful instead of being lazy. Thanks!
Jenn, thanks for the heads up. I just started growing lavender. When it gets bigger, I would have cut it down for the winter like my other perennials. Now I know not to. THANK YOU!!
My philosophy is that if I didn't procrastinate - I wouldn't have anything to do tomorrow!!
OldRoses, there is just too much to remember about all the different plants for me to remember it all. Maybe if I made a list or something.
GCTD, that's quite right!
No updates ???
