Done Planting!

Well, it seems to have taken forever, but I managed to get the last of my bulbs planted today. I went lazy and planted larger bunches in cardboard boxes rather than a few bulbs each in a gazillion plastic pots. I'll let you know how this works next spring. I figure that the bulbs will be easier to get at since I can just tear the cardboard away -- or even just plant the cardboard with the bulbs!

And, I managed to get my garlic planted too!

In the process of cleaning my garden for fall, which I almost never do, I even found some plants still in the pots that I bought them in. Oops! Now I have no idea where to plant them. Perhaps they can tough it out in the pots over winter.

I finally laid out my blackberry bed. Hopefully I will get some blackberries next year! The raspberries I planted out in nearly frozen ground last year did just fine and even gave us fruit this year!

I think my blueberry plants may be a lost cause. Oh, well. I can always try again next year. Besides, I plan on planting a ton of blueberries eventually. They are my favorite fruit. Then blackberries, then mangoes. Too, bad I can't grow mangoes.

I still have to pack up all my gardening supplies for a few months. I've been so busy this year, I am really looking forward to a little snowy respite.

That's an interesting idea of planting bulbs in boxes - I'll be curious to see how it works for you!

I never thought to plant bulbs in boxes. Neat idea. I planted a raspberry, and two blueberry bushes, and all but one blueberry died. Will try again next year. I also planted a blackberry plant and it's doing quite well. I probably won't get fruit next year, but something to look forward to in the years to come.

Dear Sylvana, If your new bulbs look anything like your blog header, they will be stunning! Pam x

Wow ... I can't believe you got all those bulbs planted. It took me about 4 weeks to plant my measly 50 bulbs. I hope to plant some blueberries, too. I keep saying that. I'll look at yours.

Cyndy, I hope it works! It was far easier than pots.

MeemsNYC, I don't know how long it takes before blackberries fruit. I had 6 blackberry canes before and they did great, but never fruited, so after 6 years I yanked them. I have a different variety now. And they are THORNLESS :)

Wendy, I know that one of the biggest killers of blueberries is alkaline soil. They really like it to be acidic. I know blueberries grow here, and the variety that I am trying are from Wisconsin, so I hope these work for me.

Pam's English Garden, I love those tulips in my header. They are 7 year old Princess Irenes. I would definitely say that they are my favorite tulip -- and I have a LOT of tulips!

The Violet Fern, and I still have to plant them again in the spring! It is worth it. I did try to plant some directly in the garden, but mostly kept hitting past plantings of tulips, so I gave up. There are just too many invisible bulbs out there.

You should know that your post prompted me to get off my butt and plant my bulbs - thanks for the gentle nudge! Good luck with your bulbs :-)

Nice to find another gardener near by in Wisconsin. Here on the shores of Lake Michigan we have much the same environment, just a little cooler in the summer. I have had very good success with three different kinds of blueberries, maybe just luck! We can talk about that at another time. You might enjoy seeing some of my posting, lots of pictures. You can find my blog using Google search engine: gardensatwaterseast.blogspot.com/ I will continue to check in on yours, always enjoy. Jack
